The Wrath of Booger
I am not happy.
The humans have me on vomit-icine, which kills pain but tastes like vomit and rabies. The vet said it was shrimp flavored, but I’d like to see him eat it.
My human mom, who I used to love and cherish, is the evil wretch who forces this crap down my throat and stretches my legs for physical therapy. I have long since stopped talking to her or letting her pet me, or sleeping anywhere near her. I get up and leave if she tries to pet me now. She punishes me, I punish her. Simple as that. There are still five human siblings and a human dad that I can snuggle with.
Today the dad fed me the vomit-icine. How dare he! The sister was shining a red dot in my face. I actually trusted them up until today. This calls for more than just ignoring the bad people. This calls for retaliation.
So far today I have bit the tail off lappy (dad’s laptop) and am scratching and biting everyone who walks by me. It’s a start, but the day is young. Hmm… Maybe I can find a great big tractor over at the Ag Equipment Classifieds. I’d love to see them try to force this crap down my throat after I run them over a few times.
All the humans will feel the Wrath of Booger today!

Back on the pain pills
Booger The Great. Check it out, my hair is growing back!
I went to the vet today for my 6 week follow up. He says I am not as stretchy as I should be so back on the pain pills for me. I hate the pills. They taste bad and make me shake and hallucinate. I guess they also make me more pliable for physical therapy and that’s the whole point.
That human tried mixing my pills in with tuna, then with soft food. I wouldn’t eat anything that lady tried to feed me for a week! My new shrimp flavored medicine should be ready this afternoon. This should be interesting.

I got my staples out!
I went to a new vet on Thursday to get my staples out. They were pretty nice and gave me new medicine. I’m not going to take it, but at least they are trying. It is agreed now that my bones were not deteriorating at all. In fact, this vet said cats have the most fall-type injuries from falling at a height of 10-12 feet. Less, the impact isn’t enough to cause damage. More and cats are able to right themselves and land properly. Now it all makes sense. I have also found a new vet that I like.
Since my surgery I have lost over two pounds. I am now 14.8 pounds. The effort to get to the food took it’s toll. That and I don’t trust those humans and their soft food and tuna treats. I am sure there is medicine in there somewhere and I will not comply.
The humans are making me do physical therapy. They pay lots of attention to me which is nice, but they just won’t leave my legs alone! Pull this way, push that way. Can’t they just pet me and rub my belly? Enough already! Four more months of this? I am going to have to find new hiding places.

I’m back! Life is good again.
The humans wait on me hand and foot so I don’t have to get up.
I am finally home, somewhat rested and have time to write a post.
I got home Wednesday afternoon after four nights at the Vet in Bemidji. Interestingly enough, he said there was no bone deterioration and thought it was odd that the Vets in Fargo-Moorhead even suspected it in a 23 month old tabby cat. I’m SOOO glad mom didn’t listen to them and put me to sleep forever.
The first few days I was home, I did everything possible to drag myself to secluded hiding spots and stay out of view. Since yesterday I have been somewhat back to my old self, only moving to be closer to people and find the next really soft spot to lay. Getting around is tough, so luckily the humans bring me food and tend to my every need. I am off the pain medication now and only have one more day of antibiotics. Yuck.
Next week I will go in to a new local Vet to have my staples removed. Well, the ones I haven’t chewed out by then. These little buggers sure are annoying!
Life is good again. I am off the toilet training indefinitely (I win!), humans are giving me tasty soft food, I got three new plague rats, and Kaleesi is being nice. By nice, I mean she is walking past me instead of all the way around and has even walked up and sniffed me. And took my rat. Maybe that had something to do with it.

The Surgery

Trying to walk after having surgery on both hips
After all week of trying to get in to see a vet to schedule surgery, I called Animal Care Clinic in Bemidji, MN. Dr. Eric Thorsgard was recommended by two vets as the surgeon to go to if the local doctors couldn’t handle it. I talked to the office shortly after noon on Saturday and they said if we left right away they would do the surgery immediately. Bemidji is three hours away. We arrived at 4pm, an hour after closing, and met with the doctor. He was very nice and down to earth. He was confident it would be an easy surgery and recovery. At 5:20 we got a call saying Booger was done and all went well. They did a FHE (Femoral Head Excision) on both legs at once.
I am so thankful they were able to take him in, especially on short notice and after hours on a Saturday. Everyone at the office gave the impression that this was no big deal, that everything would be okay. This was a nice change from the Fargo vets who were making it seem like the end for Booger.
Dr. Thorsgard says after a month or so of recovery, Booger should be able to do most everything he did before. I’m not sure if that’s good or bad, he is a booger after all. I will just be happy to have my cat back.
Booger will be recovering at the vet until Wednesday afternoon. Right now he is eating and using the litter box some. Over all, doing well.

This is a bad week for a cat to be injured
With two broken hips I can’t get around much. For now all of my necessities have been moved to a central location until I heal. This is me in my priority location in easy reach of the food. Mmmmm… food.
With a holiday on Thursday, that means Vets are not available after Monday.
Booger was injured Sunday night and went to the Vet on Monday. They looked him over, took some x-rays and gave him pain meds. They sent his x-rays to a vet who does surgeries. At closing time on Tuesday that vet called and listed some options, said to research it on the internet and his office would call back the next day. It’s Friday now and I am still waiting for that call back. They didn’t mention the doctor would be out for the rest of the week. It’s frustrating that there are no emergency animal services available.
This morning I called several vets in the phone book and Booger has an appointment on Monday with someone new. I will have to stop and pick up his x-rays and more pain meds before then.
In the meantime, Booger has been very snuggly, even more than usual. He is always needing to be on my lap or right next to me. I am doing all I can to avoid the stairs because he will follow. He tries to play and still is trying to attack Kaleesi. It’s hard to keep him still. Maybe if I spoil him with turkey it will put him to sleep.

Booger’s Broken Hips
Just got back from the vet, anaesthesia hadn’t even worn off yet and they gave me pain killers. I couldn’t even move, just hang my tongue out.
This is Booger’s Mom with an update on his injuries. Thank you all for your well wishes and purrs.
The bone specialist vet called back today after reviewing Booger’s x-rays. Booger has two broken femoral heads (the balls of the hip bones). In addition, one hip is displaced. Even though he is less than two years old, the deterioration of his bones weakened them to the point that an otherwise harmless fall is very serious. I don’t know how the injury happened, but suspect he was chasing Kaleesi and fell over the half wall and down the stairs.
The vet isn’t offering any recommendations, just saying to research cat hip surgery on the internet and his office will call back tomorrow. He said the left hip, which is displaced and fractured, would need a pin and hope it heals while he continues to use the broken right hip. Once the left hip is healed enough to use, some kind of surgery can be done on the right hip. FHO (femoral head ostectomy) or removal of the ball joint may be an option. The pin can then be removed from the left hip. The genetic defect of bone deterioration reduces the chance of healing with or without a pin and two vets have said this will not heal on its own. It isn’t known how much pain he will be in or for how long.
We are looking into kitty wheelchairs hoping this will increase his chances of healing. I don’t want to put my baby down.
If anyone can point me to some good information on cat hip surgeries, bone deterioration or wheelchairs, please paste a link! I asked JustAnswer and this was the response. Hopeful at least.
I will post again when I find out more.
